NEW MUSIC GHETTO STAR LORD FAVVER (FAV TAPE 2)
Wishing a Happy 17th Birthday to In My Lifetime, Vol. 1!
On November 4, 1997 Jay-Z released his second studio album, via Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam [his first with the major label].
Despite mixed criticism towards its more mainstream-oriented sound and lyrical substance, the album debuted at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum in sales by the RIAA in the United States. Though the productions are flashier and more commercial than on his debut, Jay-Z still remained the tough street rapper on many of the tracks. Streets is Watching, Where I’m From, and You Must Love Me are my personal favorites. Hov believes the album is just as hard-hitting as any of his work, but admits that songs like (Always Be My) Sunshine ruined the album’s chance of being seen as a classic.
