This is definitely one of my favorite fights in Naruto. Obito was and still is my favorite character in the series. I related to him the most. He was the underdog, laughing stock and was never good enough for anything, but then he got stronger and more aggressive even though he played the nice guy as “Tobi”. I never felt he was “in the wrong”. Putting a mass of people under an illusion to end war doesn’t sound like a bad guy to me. I would’ve done it. It would have been a good lesson for them to learn. Even with Naruto being victorious and becoming Hokage, the fact still remains that there is still conflict in that world. I don’t know, after looking at these new Naruto Gaiden chapters in the manga that have been released all I keep thinking is, “Obito was right.” Now, granted this is fictional character, I still identified with Obito so much more than I expected to. Even down to when he was Tobi, I knew that was him from the jump (most of us did) I love the whole concept behind the masked, goofy background character actually being a serious foe in the end. I also felt bad for how he had love for Rin even though she just saw him as a friend and wasn’t feeling him like that. Not playing the friendzone anthem here, because I’m older and more reserved now but that hit me so hard. Kishimoto definitely had my attention when he conveyed that. To have the best intentions and be misunderstood is always a terrible feeling. I legitimately choked up at Obito’s death too. He wanted peace and was going to fight one last time in order to make it happen…even if it meant by force. But it’s whatever, no big deal. It’s just a series I enjoyed at the end of the day.
