Titles Mean Nothing
What’s a crown without a conscience?
January 13, 2026
I been thinking about something heavy lately.
And I can’t even lie, Hunter x Hunter made it click for me.
In the Chimera Ant arc, Meruem is “King.” That’s his title. That’s what he was born into. That’s what everybody around him is programmed to honor. The Royal Guard treat him like he’s God on earth.
But what’s wild is they start going against him.
Not because they became weak. Not because they stopped fearing him. But because something inside them started waking up.
Something human.
And it made me realize titles don’t mean nothing if the soul don’t agree.
The Royal Guard were serving Meruem because somebody made him. That’s really it. Not because he earned it. Not because he was righteous. Not because he was merciful. They were loyal because that’s what they were designed to do.
But what was he really the king of?
He was a foreign species. He stole somebody’s palace. He took over a world that wasn’t even his. He had a crown on his head but he didn’t have love in his heart. He was ruthless. He was violent. He was arrogant.
So even if he got coronated officially, what did that change?
Nothing.
Because a title don’t automatically make you good.
A title don’t automatically make you right.
A title don’t automatically make you worthy.
It just makes you labeled.
And that’s the part people don’t understand.
We live in a world where everybody is obsessed with labels.
CEO. Boss. Doctor. Attorney. Influencer. King. Queen. Legend. GOAT.
But who are you when nobody is clapping?
Who are you when nobody is watching?
Who are you when the title gets stripped?
Because Meruem had everything a “king” is supposed to have. Power, fear, authority, dominance.
And still, he wasn’t fulfilled.
He didn’t start becoming somebody we cared about until he started becoming somebody with a heart.
The turning point wasn’t his strength.
It was when his heart started changing.
When he met Komugi and started learning what life really is.
Love. Respect. Patience. Humility. Curiosity. Mercy.
That’s when he became likeable.
That’s when you started wanting to see him win.
And the crazy part is that’s not even his nature. That’s something he learned from humans. He developed a moral code rooted in human love.
So what does that tell me?
It tells me titles are fake.
Because when the title was all he had, he was a monster.
But when he gained love, he gained a soul.
And that’s what life really is.
Not being “superior.”
Not being “above.”
Not being “the man.”
Not being “the king.”
It’s love.
Love is greater than titles.
Love is greater than ego.
Love is greater than status.
All that fake superiority stuff is a costume.
And I had to look at myself too.
I’m a lawyer.
That’s a title.
But if I’m being honest, that title don’t mean nothing by itself.
It doesn’t automatically make me a good man.
It doesn’t automatically make me wise.
It doesn’t automatically make me righteous.
It doesn’t automatically make me protected.
And that’s why I can’t worship it.
Because the Bible already told me what time it is.
In Daniel, you see it clearly. God is the one who gives kingdoms. God is the one who removes them.
So how could I ever put my faith in a title?
How could I ever put my identity in something God can change overnight?
That means my real security can’t be “Attorney.”
My real security can’t be “successful.”
My real security can’t be “respected.”
My security has to be God.
Faith in Him means I’m provided for no matter what, as long as I live righteous.
Not perfect. But righteous.
Because at the end of the day, you can have the crown and still be empty.
You can have the position and still be lost.
You can have everybody calling you “King” and still not know what you’re even ruling.
So I’m not impressed by titles.
I’m impressed by character.
Who are you when the title means nothing?
Who are you when nobody owes you loyalty?
Who are you when you don’t have power to force respect?
That’s the real you.
And that’s what I’m chasing in my own life.
Not a bigger title.
A better heart.
