Use good samples right from the start. You can’t polish a turd, so why should you try. If you find you are having to use excessive EQing, compression, what have you, on a sample, It is usually a sign that you should move on and pick a different sample.
Note: Most professional sample packs have been processed, there is generally little to no need to process a vengeance kick for example.
