A year or two after the release of Kill Bill: Volume 2, Quentin Tarantino said that he wanted to make a third film in the series. According to Tarantino and internet folk lore, the third volume would follow Vivica A. Fox’s daughter’s journey for revenge and ultimately kill Uma Thurman’s character. Given the pace that Taratino works at and his fondness for talking, it doesn’t seem like we’ll get the concluding chapter of the Beatrix Kiddo saga any time soon.
However, a version of this hypothesized film is currently taking place in the Western Conference semi finals. It might be bit of a stretch, but bare with me for a moment.
During the 2010 playoffs, I wrote a longish piece comparing Kobe Bryant to Beatrix Kiddo and the Boston Celtics to Bill. Bryant defeated the Celtics (well, Ron Artest saved the day in game 7 of that series), defeated Steve Nash and the Suns and in the opening round, Bryant defeated Kevin Durant and the Thunder.
Two years later, Kevin Durant and the Thunder have a commanding 2 game lead heading into Staples Center tonight. The Thunder made quick work of the Dallas Mavericks who knocked them out of the conference finals last year and now, they’re on the verge of taking out Kobe Bryant and potentially facing the San Antonio Spurs in the conference finals. Kevin Durant is on the verge of killing his metaphorical Bill.
Not comparing Kevin Durant to Michael Jordan, but there are some similarities between the Thunder’s current playoff push and the 91 Chicago Bulls playoff run. The new era in NBA could officially begin in June.
