Day 8: Road to a Million: Live from Trinosophes
WHEN YOU STEP ON A TIGER'S TAIL - EP - 2.20.2026
Road to a Million: Live from Trinosophes
No Second Takes
Yesterday I walked you through Tickets to the Show EP — the studio version. Three tracks built for the stage.
Today I’m showing you what happens when you actually get on one.
JULY 31, 2022. Trinosophes. Detroit.
If you don’t know Trinosophes, it’s one of those Detroit venues that doesn’t care about your follower count. The room is intimate. The crowd is close. The sound bounces off the walls and comes right back at you. There’s nowhere to hide in a room like that.
I didn’t want to hide.
Three Tracks. Live. No Safety Net.
The setlist was deliberate: “Tickets to the Show,” “Runnin’ From You,” and “Right Where I Belong” with Codee. Three completely different energies, performed back to back, captured as-is.
“Tickets to the Show” opened with the same energy it was designed for — high confidence, crowd engagement, bars that reference everything from Rakim in ‘86 to the Louvre. That track was always meant to be a live statement. Standing in Trinosophes delivering lines about being legendary in the shelter, about venues knowing your name because you bring people out — that wasn’t metaphor anymore. It was happening in real time. The flood gates were open.
Then the shift. “Runnin’ From You” brought the room down to something more intimate. That song is about the things you can’t outrun — the emotional baggage, the patterns, the way love has you hopping city to city trying to feel complete. Performing that live takes a different kind of confidence. It’s easy to be the braggadocious rapper on stage. It’s harder to stand in front of people and talk about the cold, the holes in the umbrella, the stuff that doesn’t look good on a highlight reel. The room felt that.
And then “Right Where I Belong” with Codee closed it out. That’s a celebration record at its core — waking up feeling better than you’ve ever been, the champagne pouring, acknowledging that you’re really at the top. But it also carries weight. Lines about people in the dirt who are really gone, about accumulating while others hate, about humble beginnings and friendships that divided and ended. Having Codee there for that moment made it hit different. That brotherhood on stage, the energy between two people who actually mean it when they say they came from nothing — you can’t manufacture that in a studio.
Why Live Recording Matters
Most independent artists at the stage I was at in 2022 don’t record live projects. The studio lets you punch in, fix what’s not working, add a filter. Live recording strips all of that away.
I wanted it stripped away.
There’s a black-and-white photo from that night that captures everything. Me at the mic, band setup behind me, no theatrics. Just delivery. The audience isn’t background noise — they’re part of the recording. Their energy is on the tape whether you planned for it or not.
That night was proof of concept. Proof that the bars translate outside the booth. Proof that the confidence isn’t a studio effect. I’m not an artist who only exists inside a DAW. I’ve stood in one of Detroit’s most respected rooms and delivered three tracks with three completely different emotional registers in one set.
Where to Find It
The full performance video is on YouTube right now, LIVE FROM TRINOSOPHES.
There’s something about seeing it, not just hearing it. Live from Trinosophes is also returning to all DSPs soon, so when it does, those streams count toward the million too.
The Count
We’re at 930,643 streams and climbing every day this week. Each project I’ve walked you through — from First of His Name all the way to today — has contributed to that number. But more importantly, each one has contributed to the artist standing here now, four days out from dropping something new.
Tomorrow: My Deepest Discovery. The project where everything came together.
Four days until When You Step On A Tiger’s Tail.
Watch the performance. Then tell me this isn’t someone you’d buy a ticket to see.
