Day 6: Dear Somebody - An Audio Letter (Sept 2021)
Road to a Million ! WHEN YOU STEP ON A TIGER'S TAIL - EP 2.20.2026
Feb 14, 2026
September 2021. A year after “Long May He Reign.”
I needed to write a letter. Not to one person specifically, but to somebody. Maybe you. Maybe her. Maybe me.
“Dear Somebody: An Audio Letter by JHarry” was my most personal project yet. Not the most aggressive. Not the most confident. The most honest.
The cover - me in a tux, hand-drawn typography, that warm yellow background - set the tone. This wasn’t a flex project. This was a conversation.
“Yes Lawd” opened with pure bars: “I think it’s time to go off / Rock the shit I rock they go label you a show off.” Even when I’m being vulnerable, I’m still sharp. The track moved between confidence and gratitude, flex and faith. “Harry keep a hot verse and the best hooks / I write checks the same way I write books.”
“All I Want Is U” (featuring Mike and Wop) was about desire - for success, for love, for connection. “Rock ice till we numb up / Girl you with the gang turn up / Gotta party till the sun up / All I want is you.” Three perspectives on wanting something real.
“Much To Do, Much To Say” got introspective about relationships ending: “Wrote this letter and decided to send it / Still thinking about how we ended.” The hook - “So much to do so much to say” - captured that feeling of unfinished business. Things left unsaid. Conversations that never happened.
“Guard Down (Outerlude)” asked for vulnerability: “I need you to let your guard down / You give me all of you, I give you all of me.” It’s hard to let someone in when you’ve been protecting yourself for so long.
“Window Pain (Full Length)” played on the double meaning: “I see joy thru my window pain / Sometimes you go blind cuz window bring pain.” Looking out at the world through the lens of your struggles. The Method Man sample (”I came to bring the pain hardcore to the brain”) tied it to hip-hop lineage.
“Poppin’ 22” closed with celebration: “Big shit poppin over here hoe / Don’t be acting like no weirdo.” After all the introspection, a reminder that we’re still winning.
This project taught me you can be vulnerable without being weak. You can write a love letter and still keep the bars sharp.
Dear Somebody was exactly what it needed to be: a letter I needed to send.
Stream “Dear Somebody: An Audio Letter by JHarry” now. New EP “When You Step On A Tiger’s Tail” drops 2.20.26.
