DEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ: NATIONAL HEROES

DEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ: NATIONAL HEROES

Not too long ago, I was listening to the White Tee Instrumental by Dem Franchize Boyz because I love that beat so much. Everything about it just hit so hard but that beat prompted something else for me as well. I thought about the lyrics and how it impacted the community at large during that time period.

Yup in My White Tee !!

The song White Tee was about A Basic Plain White T-Shirt, yup that was it. What made it so powerful though is the song was basically a changing of the guard for urban fashion. At the time everyone was stuck on Throwback Jerseys. Throwback Professional jerseys was the crave and was worn by anyone who meant anything to the culture.

However, jerseys was expensive, at least they were back then because we were children/teenagers who didn’t have their own source of income yet.

Especially if you had siblings, keeping up with the trend of popular jerseys could become an expensive task. I roughly remember my jerseys being at least $70.

Also, you couldn’t get the jersey alone you had to get the matching fitted that was an extra $40. Then you had to get some fire kicks, not no bullshitters either! That was at least $120 if you was serious about your kick game.

Now here’s how Dem Franchize Boyz essentially became heroes. That group basically said yeah all that is cool or whatever but my guy all I need is this white tee and I’m good.

The White Tee became a nationwide phenomenon and saved plenty of money in black households.

You could buy a pack of white tees or just a singular tee. And the tees were available everywhere, from the gas station to Walmart.

White Tees were extremely versatile as well. I could wear them as street clothes I could dress them up but no matter what if I didn’t have anything I could always go “Man I got a white tee I’ll be straight”. All you needed was some fire jeans and crispy pair of forces and you was good to go.

So on behalf of those who adolescent years was during the throwback/white tee era, I would like to thank Dem Franchize Boyz for help saving me from having a trash fit and keeping money in my family’s pocket. I would have to wait till my mother got paid for those jerseys or wait for my grandmother to get her check. But those white tees man my family was coming home with those like it was toilet paper.

My grandma would leave the house empty handed and returned with a white tee. And she would iron the tee for us extra crispy giving it that crazy sauce so I can really go nuts in any environment.

All in all the white tee can still be worn to this day with no hassle, its just done seldom because of the flashy times we live in.

The 2019 NBA FINALS has been one emotional rollercoaster ride. This year Golden State went from the most hated team in the League… to people actually showing empathy and being sympathetic for the Warriors?!

How does hate turns to “love” so swiftly? It’s called having a human heart. After seeing what the Warriors went through it activates something in a person with a soul to see that type of anguish. People identify with losses and struggle, not perfection. When the Warriors dominance started to look shaky, that’s when the massive support started to come together.

First, the horrific injury that happened to Kevin Durant shook the Warriors organization. Speculation swarmed the league that KD wasn’t ready to play in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA FINALS. However, the bustle of maybe he could come back and play also entrenched the league. When he did return to play he came back w/ a vengeance. Most would agree this was looking like a 40 point game for KD.

Then, KD went down (oh no) with what we all knew was a fatal injury. The league sent their undying love and support. Even The Boy, Drizzy Drake was distraught on the sidelines like he just seen his dog get hit by a F-150.

Funny, KD was just the biggest snake on Planet Earth. Some went as far to call him the scum of the Earth. Now he’s everyone hero because he showed heart from a place of vulnerability.

The tragedy for Golden State didn’t stop there. Klay was also bit by the injury bug after a dunk attempt that left him with a torn ACL. Fueled by a will to win, he makes it back to the court and hit two Kobe-esque free throws.

Like KD, Klay was swarmed with love and support. Klay was just a budding joke, who even had the infamous nickname “China Klay” ( in reference to his Asia Tour for his signature sneakers in which he played like a person with zero basketball IQ).

Seeing the Warriors depleted and facing imminent defeat gave people a chance to actually feel remorse for them. They’re able to feel Remorse after witnessing five straight dominant years.

A dynasty everyone wanted to end but after these misfortunate onslaughts to the team’s morale maybe the cheering for Bay Area’s Guiding Light will start once again.

Recently I was watching an instastory of Pharrell’s as he journeyed through Japan. I thought to myself “man this is really cool what he’s showing me I need to make sure I hit places up like these when I hit Japan “ and then “I thought holy crap this is what instagram is really for.” I believe instagram is a tool to help show people what their aspirations and goals look like in tangible form. By having an inside look they can better visualize desirable things for themselves.

Although mostly instagram is used as an ego-driven instant gratification platform, I believe it to be more credible than that. Japan has always been a dream visit of mine due to how much I love anime and a couple of other things. Seeing Skateboard P expose so much of his routine, makes me actualize the same things for myself.

Another instagram user by the name of Kool.Kiy also serves as an inspiration. He is a talented young man who has his own successful clothing line, though people may not know him personally they have definitely seen his work before.

At time he may posts his sales by screen-shotting his Shopify notifications that shows an abundance of sales in short time periods. Now in the eyes of lames, fools, and hams this can be taken the wrong way very quickly.

However in the eyes of myself I see something that can also be for me. Him showing his sales and the process behind his craft allows me to visualize the same for myself and use his a success as motivation and a guiding light rather to hate on.

Next time while surfing thru the gram (which you’ll probably do immediately after reading this) think about each post that features one of your desires, as something that can serve as inspiration.

Like Meek Mill classic captions used to say For Motivational Purposes Only.
